JOB DESCRIPTION
NYEG is seeking a patient, creative, and experienced Knitting Instructor to lead weekly quilting classes for seniors. This program is designed to foster creativity, enhance fine motor skills, and promote social connection through the art of knitting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for fiber arts and a heart for working with older adults.
Duties include:
- Lead weekly knitting sessions that cater to various skill levels—from beginners to advanced.
- Teach foundational techniques such as casting on, knitting, purling, binding off, and pattern reading.
- Encourage individual and group projects that foster creativity and social engagement.
- Create a welcoming, inclusive environment where seniors feel encouraged and supported.
- Prepare materials and set up before class; clean up and organize after each session.
- Communicate with NYEG’s Director of Operations for scheduling, materials, and feedback.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in knitting and pattern reading.
- Experience teaching or leading group craft sessions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to tailor instruction to seniors with varying mobility and experience levels.
- Dependable, organized, and able to work independently.
Preferred but not necessary:
- Previous experience working with seniors or in community-based programs.
- Knowledge of additional fiber arts (e.g., crochet, weaving) is a plus.
- Background in art education, recreational therapy, or related fields.

This is a freelance/independent contractor position.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $80.00 - $95.00 per hour
