Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive mental health assessments, diagnosis, and treatment plans across diverse patient populations, including children, geriatrics, and individuals with complex psychiatric conditions. This role requires expertise in various clinical settings such as inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and telehealth environments. The Psych NP will collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care that adheres to HIPAA and NCQA standards. Experience with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, and eClinicalWorks is essential. Candidates should possess a strong background in psychopharmacology, behavioral health, and acute care procedures including IV infusion, suturing, and sterile processing.
Duties
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments for diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, and those with developmental disabilities or dementia.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating medication management, psychotherapy referrals, and behavioral interventions.
- Administer injections such as botulinum toxin treatments and dermal fillers; perform procedures like spinal taps and catheterizations as needed.
- Manage acute pain cases and assist with crisis intervention in emergency or urgent care settings.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for documentation of patient encounters, medication administration, CPT coding, and medical records management.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on discharge planning, case management, utilization review, and post-acute care coordination.
- Provide telehealth consultations utilizing telehealth platforms to extend mental health services remotely.
- Ensure infection control protocols are followed during all procedures including sterile processing techniques.
- Educate patients on health coaching topics such as nutrition, medication adherence, and chronic disease management.
- Participate in clinical research projects or quality improvement initiatives related to behavioral health or psychiatric care.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with specialization as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP).
- Current licensure and certification as a Nurse Practitioner with psychiatric specialization; valid state license required.
- Proven experience in behavioral health settings including inpatient units like ICU or PICU; outpatient clinics; emergency rooms; hospice & palliative medicine; or assisted living facilities.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; experience with ICD-9/ICD-10 coding essential.
- Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology including medication administration protocols for complex cases involving acute pain management or substance use disorders.
- Skills in performing procedures like suturing, IV insertion/infusion, venipuncture, catheter care, gastrostomy tube feeding; familiarity with ventilator management is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple specialties including geriatrics, pediatrics (including neonatal ventilator care), internal medicine, occupational health, infectious disease care, and trauma centers (Level I & II).
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration; commitment to HIPAA compliance and infection control standards.
