SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: 

Under ongoing supervision, the QC  Inspector performs in-process inspection of materials and weldments using nondestructive testing methods and visual inspection methods to assure compliance with specifications and quality requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Use interpersonal skills to effectively communicate QA/QC requirements and objectives
• Assure product meets and/or exceeds standards and specifications
• Performs in-process inspection and nondestructive tests
• Assist Inspection Manager/Leadperson and QA/QC personnel as needed
• Maintain documentation
• Work at a pace sufficient to obtain quality and quantity of inspection/testing, consistent with operational requirements
• Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by Manager

JOB SCOPE:

• This position provides specialty support to the facility by ensuring manufactured products conform to specified requirements to ensure the highest quality possible.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. 
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
• As needed the employee should have sufficient education, training and experience to ensure qualification in inspection methods, which are being employed.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. 
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. 
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 
• Ability to locate and compute metric conversions.
• Ability to cross train in multiple departments.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or Equivalent combination of education and experience. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• AWS - CWI
• ASNT-TC-1A Level II in MT and PT with three years experience
• NWP Level II Visual Inspection

Over 2/3 of the time:

• Stooping:  Positions self to pack up tools & materials.  (This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.)
• Kneeling/Crouching:  Position self to pick up tools or materials.
• Walking: Moving about to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
• Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists hands, and /or fingers.

Up to 2/3 of the time:

• Climbing:  Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.  Body agility is emphasized. (This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.)

• Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas and information accurately, in written or diagram form.
• Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discrimination in sounds.

Less than 1/3 of the time:

• Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw drag haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Physical Requirements:

• Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and /or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

Visual Acuity:

• The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as:  preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Vision Requirements:

Over 2/3 of time the worker is required to have:

• The worker is required to have close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
• The worker is required to have color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
• The worker is required to have the ability to adjust visual focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)

Up to 2/3 of the time:

• The worker is required to have distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
• The worker is required to have peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
• The worker is required to have depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)

Weather Conditions:

Over 2/3 of the time:

• The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur inside and outside

Up to 2/3 of the time:

• The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions:  No effective protection from weather.
• The worker is subject to extreme cold:  Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour. (Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions such as wind and humidity.)

Supervision Received:

• Close Supervision: The incumbent performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures, and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.
