What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President of Preconstruction position at NW Recruiting Partners?
Vice President of Preconstruction
Seattle, WA
NW Recruiting Partners has been retained by a highly regarded, employee-owned commercial general contractor to find a preconstruction leader who wants to redefine what that phrase means. This isn't a pricing-and-scheduling role. The mission is to build a preconstruction function that owners trust as a strategic partner from the earliest days of a project, helping them assess feasibility, weigh risk, and make better decisions before ground is ever broken.
You’ll lead the strategy, develop the team, strengthen collaboration across preconstruction and operations, and work directly with clients and executive leadership to shape how projects are planned and positioned for success.
This is a highly visible role for someone who wants to influence both the client experience and the long-term direction of a respected, employee-owned organization.
The Role
- Provide strategic leadership for the company’s preconstruction services and team.
- Guide budgeting, estimating, constructability, planning, procurement strategy, and project risk evaluation.
- Partner with clients early to understand their objectives and identify potential challenges.
- Help owners evaluate alternatives and make informed decisions related to cost, schedule, feasibility, and risk.
- Improve the consistency, quality, and effectiveness of preconstruction processes and deliverables.
- Work closely with operations to ensure a strong transition from planning into construction.
- Develop team members, strengthen accountability, and build leadership depth.
- Support key pursuits and cultivate long-term relationships with owners and industry partners.
- Contribute to broader company planning and growth initiatives.
The Ideal Background
- Senior-level preconstruction leadership experience with a commercial general contractor.
- Strong conceptual estimating, budgeting, planning, constructability, and risk-management capabilities.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing preconstruction professionals.
- Experience working directly with owners, developers, architects, consultants, and other project partners.
- The ability to balance client objectives, project realities, and business considerations.
- A record of contributing to successful project pursuits and long-term client relationships.
- Strong knowledge of the Pacific Northwest commercial construction market.
- Executive presence with a collaborative, practical, and relationship-oriented leadership style.
What Makes This Opportunity Distinctive
This organization is not looking for someone who views preconstruction as a handoff point or a pricing exercise. They are looking for a leader who can build trust, ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions when necessary, and help clients see around corners.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence how the company approaches preconstruction, develops its people, and partners with clients for years to come. As an employee-owned organization, the company offers a culture where leadership decisions and long-term performance have a meaningful impact on the people doing the work.
