Position Overview
The Dispatcher I is responsible for executing daily truckload operations, including dispatching drivers, managing load coverage, and maintaining full visibility across active shipments.
This role serves as the operational control point between drivers, load boards, and internal teams. The dispatcher is expected to make timely decisions, maintain accurate system data, and ensure freight is executed according to plan.
Core Responsibilities
• Dispatch drivers across OTR, drayage, and specialized truckload operations, ensuring all loads are properly assigned, scheduled, and executed within required timelines
• Monitor shipments from pickup through delivery using Motive, DataTruck, and internal systems, taking immediate corrective action to resolve delays, service issues, or disruptions
• Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers during active loads, providing clear direction on routing, appointment schedules, and delivery expectations while tracking availability and Hours of Service
• Source and secure freight through industry load boards including DAT, Truckstop, and Uber Freight, evaluating opportunities based on operational fit, timing, and network efficiency
• Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistent load coverage and maintain professional communication with brokers and carriers
• Maintain real time visibility across all active shipments, providing timely updates to internal stakeholders and customers as needed
• Ensure all load information, status updates, and documentation are accurate and current within dispatch and tracking systems
• Escalate operational issues early with clear, solution-oriented communication
• Execute dispatch workflows in accordance with established processes while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and performance
Required Skills and Competencies
• Understanding of truckload operations including OTR and drayage
• Ability to manage multiple loads in a fast paced environment
• Familiarity with Motive, DataTruck, or similar dispatch and tracking platforms preferred
• Experience with DAT, Truckstop, or other load boards is beneficial
• Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
• Clear and direct communication with drivers, brokers, and internal teams
• Ability to provide precise instructions and maintain control of operations
• Strong decision making in time sensitive situations
• Ability to resolve issues quickly with minimal disruption to service
• High level of accountability and attention to detail
• Organized with the ability to manage competing priorities
• Self motivated with a strong focus on execution
Education and Experience Requirement
• Bachelor’s degree required, or 1 to 2 years of experience in transportation, dispatch, or operations
Recommended Experience
• Exposure to truckload operations, drayage, or freight coordination preferred
• Experience in a high volume or operations driven environment
