About This Position
We are seeking a dependable, compassionate, and attentive Kennel Technician to join our team at NVC Calder.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on animal care, takes pride in maintaining a clean and organized hospital, and thrives in a collaborative, team-first environment. As a Kennel Technician, you will help ensure our patients are comfortable, safe, and well cared for throughout their stay.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Animal Support
- Provide daily feeding, watering, walking, and enrichment for dogs and cats
- Bathe, comfort, and monitor pets with patience and kindness
- Observe animal behavior and recognize signs of stress, illness, or discomfort
- Communicate concerns clearly and promptly to the medical team
- Assist with safe, gentle, low-stress handling and restraint when needed
Hospital Support & Cleanliness
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain kennels, runs, treatment areas, and common spaces
- Manage laundry, supplies, and equipment to support daily operations
- Maintain organization and cleanliness throughout the hospital
Team & Culture
- Support a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and compassion in all interactions
Required Qualifications
- 1 year experience as a Kennel Technician or in professional animal care
- Confidence handling dogs and cats of various sizes and temperaments
- Ability to recognize basic animal body language and stress cues
- Strong attention to detail and ability to communicate observations
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to high-quality patient care
- Comfortable with physical tasks, cleaning, and sanitation duties
- Ability to lift 40 lbs and remain active throughout the workday
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and grow
Preferred Qualifications
- Fear Free® knowledge or certification
- Experience with low-stress handling or restraint
- Customer service experience
- Experience in a veterinary, boarding, or shelter environment
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to bend, stoop, scrub, lift, and perform repetitive motions
- Exposure to noise, odors, cleaning agents, pet waste, and zoonotic risks
- Ability to walk and handle animals of all sizes
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions when walking dogs
