Job Description
Location: 2508 N 33rd Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009
Reports To: Kitchen Lead and/or Site Manager
Position Type: Part-Time (~20-30 hours per week)
Note: Some seasonal variation—work hours may significantly decrease or cease during school breaks (Spring, Fall, Winter, and Summer). Full-time opportunities may also be available based on company needs.
Schedule:
- Cold Prep shifts typically begin between 4:00 AM-6:00AM
- All shifts occur Monday through Friday, with end times generally by 3:00 PM
- Specific shift times are assigned based on operational needs
Pay Range:
- Cold Prep: $17.00–$18.50/hour
Job Summary
As a Kitchen Prep I team member at Nutrition One, you'll play a vital role in preparing healthy, safe, and visually appealing meals for students across Arizona. Whether hot or cold food, your precision and care will directly impact on thousands of children who rely on the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and other child nutrition initiatives. Your role helps change lives through servant leadership and food with purpose.
Essential Functions
🍎 Food Preparation & Production
- Prepare hot and cold menu items using standardized recipes
- Portion food according to USDA meal pattern guidelines using appropriate tools
- Accurately and safely prepare meals for students with food allergies
- Support high-volume production lines to meet daily meal targets
🍽️ Food Safety & Sanitation
- Follow food handling and sanitation standards as outlined in Nutrition One’s HACCP plan
- Clean and sanitize workstations, dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Properly dispose of trash, food waste, and packaging materials
👨🍳 Teamwork & Service
- Collaborate with Kitchen Leads and team members to complete daily tasks
- Maintain flexibility with shift assignments and job duties
- Assist with on-site school meal service as needed
- Contribute to a respectful, team-focused work environment
🧾 Professionalism & Compliance
- Maintain a professional appearance and grooming per company guidelines
- Follow company policies and procedures, including those in the employee handbook
- Learn and apply federal guidelines from NSLP and related child nutrition programs
- Request clarification or support when needed to perform duties accurately
Requirements
✅ Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Food Handler’s Card
- Ability to count, portion, and follow recipes with precision
- Strong communication skills and ability to take direction
- Excellent attendance and punctuality
- 1 year experience in a production kitchen or food service environment
💪Physical Requirements
- Stand and walk for 6 hours per shift in a fast-paced, noisy kitchen environment
- Frequently bend, reach, squat, twist, grip, and use repetitive hand motions for food prep tasks
- Lift, carry, push, or pull items up to 50 lbs.; maneuver carts up to 100 lbs.
- Work safely with knives, portioning tools, and commercial kitchen equipment
- Tolerate exposure to hot, cold, or humid environments, strong food odors, and cleaning chemicals
- Remain alert and focused while handling hot items, various tools, and time-sensitive tasks
⭐Preferred Qualifications
- 2 year experience in a production kitchen or food service environment
- 1 year of customer service experience
- Bilingual (Spanish)
- Valid AZ Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (DPS-issued)
