Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Automation Technician to join our Maintenance manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automated systems and machinery across our production facilities. This role requires a strong foundation in industrial electrical and mechanical systems, with expertise in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, vision inspection systems, and other automation technologies. The Automation Technician will play a vital role in ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes.
Duties
- Install, calibrate, and maintain automation equipment including sensors, vision inspection systems, and distributed control systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical issues using schematics, calibration tools, precision measuring instruments, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic devices.
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs such as Calypso and other control software to optimize manufacturing operations.
- Perform preventive maintenance on automation systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Assist with the integration of CNC machines and high-voltage systems into existing production lines.
- Conduct field service activities including troubleshooting on-site issues at customer facilities or remote locations.
- Read and interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and AutoCAD drawings to support installation and repair tasks.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards related to electrical work (low voltage/high voltage), machinery operation, and industrial maintenance procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop system improvements and implement new automation solutions.
- Maintain detailed documentation of maintenance activities, system modifications, and troubleshooting procedures.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, mechanical systems, and industrial maintenance practices.
- Experience with industrial electrician work including low voltage and high voltage electrical systems.
- Proficiency in programmable logic controllers (PLCs), especially Calypso; familiarity with distributed control systems (DCS).
- Skilled in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and utilizing AutoCAD for system design or modifications.
- Experience with sensors (including vision inspection systems), calibration techniques, precision measuring instruments (such as ohmmeters), and calibration tools.
- Knowledge of CNC machinery operation and maintenance is preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical issues using diagnostic tools such as multimeters or ohmmeters.
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments and field service operations.
- Strong customer service skills for effective communication with clients or internal teams.
- Experience working with low voltage/high voltage systems safely in accordance with industry standards.
- Additional experience in military or related technical fields is a plus due to the disciplined approach required for this role.
