As the Senior Controls Specialist, you will serve as Nutrien’s enterprise authority on cost, schedule, and risk performance for high-impact turnarounds and capital events. Your primary focus will be to set and uphold standards, harmonize practices, and mentor controls professionals across all sites, ensuring rigorous planning, transparent reporting, and strategic readiness for major projects and events.

As the Senior Controls Specialist, you will serve as Nutrien’s enterprise authority on cost, schedule, and risk performance for high-impact turnarounds and capital events. Your primary focus will be to set and uphold standards, harmonize practices, and mentor controls professionals across all sites, ensuring rigorous planning, transparent reporting, and strategic readiness for major projects and events.
What You Will Do
- Lead the development and execution of project and turnaround control frameworks, setting budgets, enforcing standards, and ensuring cost and schedule alignment to targets.
- Analyze cost and schedule variance, identify risks, drive mitigations, and mentor site/project controls teams to strengthen decision-making and overall event performance.
- Develop, maintain, and report on resource-loaded schedules and cost models, providing actionable insights for senior executives and site leaders.
- Oversee the integration and automation of controls data across SAP, Primavera, and other platforms; advance digital solutions and analytics to support real-time decisions.
- Own and update project and turnaround controls manuals, drive adoption of AACE’s 'Six Elements of Project Controls,' and lead regular risk and change governance activities.
- Lead cross-functional workshops and capability-building initiatives, uplifting maturity and skills of controls professionals at site and enterprise levels.
- Present regular performance updates, improvement strategies, and risk assessments to senior leadership, influencing enterprise outcomes.
- Minimum 12 years of senior-level project controls experience managing portfolios >C$250M, including turnarounds and capital projects.
- Expertise in project controls frameworks, analytics, and digital solutions (Primavera P6, SAP/Oracle FI-CO, Power BI, Azure, etc.).
- Proven ability to mentor, coach, and develop site-based controls capability.
- Professional credentials: Degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, or Construction Management; AACE CCP/PSP or PMI PMP required (Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is an asset).
- Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills; able to drive improvement and strategic readiness enterprise wide.
