What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook - Child Care Center position at Nurtury?
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Is responsible for the storage, preparation of nutritious meals to child care programs using knowledge of agency, ESE, and Public Health code standards; promotes all aspects of quality food service; supervises cook assistant.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for the safe storage, preparation and service of nutritious meals and snacks at the day care center, according to Nurtury (and other funding sources) guidelines.
- Prepare and maintain written records pertaining to the food service operation according to Nurtury (and other funding sources) guidelines.
- Supervise the Cook Assistant, which includes coordination of work schedules, tasks, and training him/her to order and prepare food.
- Maintain established standards for sanitation, safety and food preparation according to Nurtury (and other funding sources) guidelines and Commonwealth of Massachusetts Article X sanitary codes.
- Participate in nutrition education activities for children, parents and staff, as appropriate.
- Attend meeting and participate in monthly in-service training sessions.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential functions:
- Ability to read, write and follow verbal instructions in English.
- Maintain records and prepare written reports.
- Experience in quantity cooking.
- Valid ServSafe Certification
- Demonstrated math skills, necessary for record keeping.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Must conform to Commonwealth of Massachusetts Public Health Title X and dress codes.
