What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Educator position at NurtureR's By Nature Early Learning Childcare Center?
We are seeking a caring, dependable educator who enjoys helping young children learn and grow. Our ideal candidate is pleasant, approachable, patient, and committed to building positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and implement weekly lesson plans aligned with the program’s curriculum and Pennsylvania Early Learning Standards.
- Submit lesson plans by the Wednesday before the planned week and have them printed and posted by Friday.
- Complete ongoing child observations and assessments, document developmental progress, and use findings to individualize learning experiences.
- Provide warm, responsive interactions and positive behavior guidance that help children develop confidence, communication, and social-emotional skills.
- Create an inviting classroom with meaningful opportunities for play, exploration, literacy, creativity, and physical activity.
- Maintain active supervision, required staff-to-child ratios, and a safe, clean, organized environment.
- Support daily routines, including meals, diapering or toileting, rest, and transitions.
- Communicate with families in a friendly, respectful, and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records and protect confidential child and family information.
- Follow center policies, Pennsylvania licensing requirements, and applicable program standards.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, coaching, and ongoing quality improvement.
Qualifications
- At least 18 years old.
- Meet Pennsylvania’s education and experience requirements for the assigned childcare staff position. For an Assistant Group Supervisor, one qualifying pathway is a high school diploma or GED plus two years of experience with children; other approved education and training pathways are accepted. Group Supervisor positions require additional qualifications.
- A degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred. Candidates willing to work toward a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential are encouraged to apply.
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a willingness to accept feedback and grow professionally.
Pennsylvania Employment and Training Requirements
- Obtain and maintain required childcare background checks and eligibility documentation. These include Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History, FBI fingerprint clearance, National Sex Offender Registry verification, and applicable out-of-state checks. Initial or renewed checks must follow Pennsylvania’s Consolidated Eligibility Letter (CEL) process.
- Provide a staff health assessment completed within 12 months before beginning service, including required initial tuberculosis screening, and renew the health assessment every 24 months.
- Complete approved pediatric First Aid/CPR, three-hour mandated reporter training, and required Health and Safety Part 1 training before caring for children unsupervised, unless an accepted prior health and safety course satisfies that requirement.
- Complete required Health and Safety Part 2 training within 90 days of hire and keep required certifications current.
- Complete at least 12 hours of approved professional development annually and participate in annual fire safety training.
- Maintain a Pennsylvania PD Registry profile linked to the center and complete required program orientation and curriculum training.
