Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our operating room team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in surgical nursing, with proficiency in aseptic technique, patient assessment, and perioperative care. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic hospital environment, providing critical support for various surgical procedures including ophthalmology, cardiac catheterization, and trauma cases. Candidates should be familiar with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner, and have experience with complex medical documentation, medication administration, and patient care protocols. A strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and infection control standards is essential to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are sterile and functional.
- Assist surgeons during procedures such as suturing, catheterization, tube feeding, and IV infusion.
- Monitor patient vital signs continuously and perform comprehensive assessments pre-, intra-, and post-operation.
- Administer medications and injections following strict aseptic techniques while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Manage airway devices including ventilators and perform airway management as needed.
- Maintain sterile field throughout surgeries, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
- Document all patient interactions, procedures performed, medication administration, and vital signs accurately in EMR/EHR systems like Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive perioperative care.
- Provide education to patients regarding postoperative care plans and discharge instructions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to infection control, trauma medicine, or acute pain management.
Experience
- Proven experience working in an OR setting with exposure to diverse surgical procedures such as ophthalmology surgeries, trauma cases (Level I & II Trauma Centers), cardiac catheterization, or outpatient ambulatory surgery centers.
- Familiarity with advanced medical equipment including ventilators, sonography devices, laboratory analyzers, and sterile processing techniques.
- Knowledge of ICD-10/ICD-9 coding systems for accurate documentation and billing purposes.
- Experience with EMR/EHR platforms such as Epic or Cerner is highly preferred.
- Background in critical care environments such as ICU or PICU is advantageous.
- Prior involvement in infection control practices within hospital or outpatient settings is essential.
- Additional experience in specialized areas like hospice & palliative medicine, neurovascular procedures (e.g., spinal tap), or post-acute care enhances candidacy.
