Role Description The Senior Procurement Consultant is a part-time, remote role. This role is responsible for leading end-to-end procurement initiatives, including opportunity assessment, sourcing strategy development, supplier selection, and negotiation to deliver measurable savings and risk reduction. The consultant will manage category strategies, analyze spend and market data, and collaborate with client stakeholders to prioritize projects and align procurement activities with business objectives. Day-to-day work includes running sourcing events, evaluating supplier proposals, drafting and supporting contracts, and monitoring supplier performance against service levels and cost targets. The role also involves advising clients on process improvements, supporting transformation and tail-spend programs, preparing executive-ready reports, and mentoring junior team members or client resources as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong procurement and category management skills, with experience designing and executing category strategies across multiple spend areas.
- Excellent analytical skills, including spend analysis, total cost of ownership assessment, and data-driven decision-making using Excel or similar tools.
- Proven consulting capabilities, such as stakeholder management, problem structuring, communication of insights, and facilitation of client workshops or meetings.
- Robust supplier management experience, including supplier selection, performance management, relationship development, and issue resolution.
- Several years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain roles; experience in a consulting or services environment is highly beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPSM, CIPS) are a plus.
- Ability to work on-site with clients in Chicago, IL, manage multiple workstreams, and operate in a fast-paced, outcome-oriented environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency with procurement tools (e-sourcing, contract management), and familiarity with change management practices.
