Are you ready for an exciting leadership opportunity in advanced imaging and longevity research? The Nuclear Imaging Institute (NII) in Englewood, NJ, is seeking an experienced MRI Technologist to help build and lead our MRI research imaging program.

NII is a research institute focused on advancing human health and longevity through cutting-edge technology, molecular imaging, MRI, and translational research. We are seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and independent MRI technologist who can help establish MRI workflows, scanning protocols, safety procedures, and high-quality research imaging operations.


Role Overview

As Lead MRI Technologist at NII, you will play a key role in launching and operating our MRI research imaging program. You will work closely with NII leadership, study investigators, collaborators, and vendors to establish MRI protocols, perform scans on research participants, support MRI safety operations, and help build efficient workflows for a growing research institute.

This is a high-complexity research environment, with opportunities to contribute to protocol development, study coordination, subject scheduling, MRI quality control, and research workflow design.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI scans on research participants under IRB-approved research protocols and the direction of study investigators.
  • Collaborate with leadership, vendors, physicists, and research partners to establish MRI protocols and imaging workflows.
  • Help develop and maintain MRI safety screening procedures, Zone III/IV access controls, emergency procedures, and scanner operating procedures.
  • Perform MRI quality control, phantom scanning, coil troubleshooting, image-quality review, and protocol optimization.
  • Support scheduling, subject flow, and research study logistics.
  • Assist with consent-related activities only when appropriately trained and delegated under IRB-approved protocols.
  • Help train future staff and establish best practices for MRI research operations.
  • Coordinate MRI supplies, equipment needs, and inventory related to MRI operations.
  • Support cross-modality research workflows involving PET/CT, PET/MRI planning, or advanced image analysis when appropriate.
  • Report to the NII Executive Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Current MRI certification: ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT.
  • Strong hands-on MRI scanning experience.
  • Ability to perform high-quality MRI examinations with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of MRI safety, patient/research-participant screening, implants, coils, sequences, artifacts, and scanner workflow.
  • Ability to work independently in a new research environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable helping build new systems and workflows.
  • Current BLS certification, or ability to obtain promptly after hire.
  • Any applicable New Jersey licenses, registrations, or credentials required for assigned duties.
  • MRI Level 2 safety training; MRSO certification or willingness to pursue MRSO certification.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of MRI technologist experience.
  • Prior experience in academic, research, or advanced imaging environments.
  • Experience with advanced neuro MRI, body MRI, cardiac MRI, quantitative MRI, diffusion, perfusion, spectroscopy, or research MRI protocols.
  • Additional certification or experience in CT, PET/CT, or nuclear medicine preferred, including one or more of the following: ARRT(CT), CNMT, ARRT(N), NMTCB(PET), NMTCB(CT)
  • New Jersey Nuclear Medicine Technology license
  • New Jersey Fusion Imaging CT license, if applicable to assigned duties
  • Venipuncture or IV experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting research subject scheduling, documentation, and IRB-regulated workflows preferred.

Education

  • Completion of an approved MRI, radiologic technology, or medical imaging program required.
  • Associate degree or equivalent education and experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.


Compensation

Compensation is commensurate with experience, qualifications, education, licenses, specialty training, and leadership responsibilities.
