Primary Purpose
The Technical Advisor, Regulatory Affairs provides strategic leadership on operational and technical regulatory issues impacting the nuclear energy industry. Reporting to the Senior Director, this role leads the development and implementation of strategies to resolve regulatory issues affecting NEI members while monitoring emerging issues that may impact the industry.
The Technical Advisor works closely with NEI staff, member companies, and federal regulatory agencies to ensure that industry positions are effectively developed, communicated, and advanced toward successful resolution.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead and oversee the development and execution of strategies to address complex regulatory and technical issues affecting the nuclear industry.
• Ensure regulatory initiatives are coordinated across NEI divisions and aligned with organizational priorities.
• Manage and facilitate NEI task forces and working groups addressing assigned regulatory matters.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to NEI project managers when appropriate.
• Identify emerging regulatory or operational issues and develop strategies to address them in accordance with NEI policies and practices.
• Engage regularly with federal regulatory agencies, including senior leadership and technical staff, to discuss and advance key industry issues.
• Represent NEI with member companies, industry organizations, and stakeholders to support the development of coordinated industry positions.
• Communicate effectively with diverse audiences including NEI leadership, member companies, regulatory agencies, Congressional staff, and the media.
• Analyze complex regulatory, technical, and policy issues from both the regulator’s and industry’s perspectives and prioritize actions needed to resolve them.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and leadership while operating in dynamic regulatory, political, and legal environments.
• Anticipate regulatory developments and proactively position NEI and its members to respond effectively.
Job Specifications:
Experience
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in the nuclear industry, preferably including utility, NSSS vendor, or regulatory experience related to the position.
• Management or leadership experience (10 years preferred).
Knowledge
• Broad understanding of the nuclear energy industry, including nuclear science and engineering principles.
• Strong knowledge of federal regulations and regulatory guidance documents.
• Ability to successfully engage stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
• Ability to evaluate operational programs, staffing needs, and fiscal considerations.
• Experience analyzing complex regulatory and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with Regulatory Affairs and Licensing is highly desirable.

Location
This position is in Washington, DC and operates in a hybrid work environment requiring regular time in the office.
Compensation
For employees who live in the Washington, DC metro area, the salary range for this position is: $191,360 – $287,040 annually. Typically, new hires are brought into the organization between the minimum and midpoint of the range, depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted salary for the role.
