Position Overview:

As a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, you will provide comprehensive primary care services to children from birth through age 18 in a low-income community setting. Your role will focus on improving health outcomes, promoting wellness, and supporting families with culturally sensitive, patient-centered care. Experience in behavioral health and telehealth is a plus, as integrated behavioral health services are a core component of our program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Pediatric Examinations: Perform thorough physical assessments, monitor vital signs, and evaluate developmental milestones across all pediatric age groups, including infants and toddlers.
  • Provide Primary Care: Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions, develop individualized care plans, and ensure appropriate follow-up.
  • Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Teams: Work closely with physicians, behavioral health specialists, social workers, and community partners to deliver holistic, integrated care.
  • Cultural and Language Competence: Offer services that are culturally sensitive and communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients and families.
  • Health Education & Prevention: Educate families on nutrition, immunizations, preventive practices, and health promotion tailored to community needs.
  • Behavioral Health Coordination: Screen for behavioral health concerns, coordinate referrals, and support behavioral health interventions when applicable.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Accurately document all patient interactions in EMR/EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks), maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and New Mexico state regulations.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in outreach activities, health fairs, and educational initiatives to improve health literacy and access.
  • Stay Current & Evidence-Based: Keep up-to-date with pediatric and behavioral health best practices, incorporating evidence-based approaches into your care.
  • Utilize Telehealth: Leverage telehealth platforms to expand access and enhance service delivery as appropriate.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Licensing & Certification: Valid New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license and certification in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (pediatric primary care preferred).
  • Experience: Prior experience with pediatric populations, including infants and children with special needs or developmental disabilities.
  • Language Skills: Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; familiarity with CPT, ICD-10 coding.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Strong understanding of pediatric anatomy, physiology, and developmental stages; capable of performing comprehensive physical assessments.
  • Behavioral Health Knowledge: Basic understanding of psychopharmacology and behavioral health interventions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with children, families, and team members.
  • Adaptability & Cultural Competence: Ability to work effectively within diverse, underserved communities with sensitivity and respect.
