As a Machinist II, you will take on greater responsibility in machining operations, working more independently while contributing to production efficiency and quality.
About the Role
The Machinist II is responsible for setting up and operating manual and CNC machining equipment to support manufacturing, repair, and rental operations. This role requires the ability to perform machining tasks with limited supervision while maintaining quality and production standards.
The position supports a variety of work scopes and requires flexibility to operate across different equipment and job types in a dynamic shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual and CNC machining equipment including lathes, mills, and related shop equipment
- Perform machining operations including turning, facing, grooving, drilling, and basic threading
- Machine and repair components in accordance with work orders, drawings, and customer specifications
- Install and adjust tooling, fixtures, and work holding devices
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and job instructions
- Perform first-run part checks and verify machining accuracy
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure parts meet tolerances
- Identify machining issues and perform basic troubleshooting related to tooling, setup, or materials
- Support manufacturing, repair, and rental preparation activities across the shop
- Assist with staging, handling, and movement of equipment and rental tools as needed
- Maintain accurate production and inspection documentation
- Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety procedures and QHSE guidelines
- Collaborate with machinists, supervisors, and quality personnel to meet production goals
- Assist in supporting or guiding entry-level machinists as needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- 2–5 years of machining experience in a manufacturing, repair, or oilfield service environment
- Experience operating manual and/or CNC machining equipment
- Ability to perform basic setups and operate machines with limited supervision
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and machining specifications
- Working knowledge of shop math including fractions, decimals, and measurements
- Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers
- Basic understanding of machining tooling, work holding methods, and materials
- Experience machining medium to large components preferred
- Exposure to oilfield equipment or threaded components preferred
- Ability to operate overhead crane and material handling equipment safely
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently while supporting team objectives
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-functional shop environment
- Willingness to work overtime or flexible hours as needed
