CNC Lathe Machine Operator - Night Shift
Primary Function
The CNC Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC lathe machines to manufacture precision components in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and production requirements. This role supports second-shift manufacturing operations and ensures consistent output, accuracy, and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathe machines according to job specifications and engineering drawings
- Perform tool changes, offsets, and machine adjustments to maintain tight tolerances
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, inspection sheets, and GD&T requirements
- Conduct in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools
- Troubleshoot machining issues and ensure equipment is operating properly
- Perform routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance
- Follow all company, shop, safety, quality, and production protocols
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, programmers, and quality personnel
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of CNC Lathe machining experience
- Strong understanding of G-code, tooling, feeds, and speeds
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
- Solid knowledge of machining processes and shop safety standards
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to hold tight tolerances
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background assessment
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during assigned shifts
- Ability to lift, push, or pull materials and components weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and use of hands for machine operation, tooling adjustments, and inspection activities
- Ability to safely work around moving machinery, cutting tools, oils, coolants, and metal materials
- Work performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, vibration, and temperature variations
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, hearing protection, and gloves as applicable
- Visual acuity sufficient to read gauges, measurements, blueprints, and inspection instruments
- Ability to work assigned second-shift hours, including overtime as business needs require
