Job Summary: The Field Engineer will perform telecommunications OSP/ISP (Outside Plant and Inside Plant) field inspections. This position requires someone highly motivated, detail oriented, and able to work independently in the field. The Field Engineer must be able to read engineering drawings and make decisions in the field if discrepancies arise. This position also requires one who can work a flexible schedule with a mix of Day and Night shifts if needed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Possess Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions and provide detailed field notes.
- Able to effectively collaborate with employees at all professional levels and ability to respectfully follow supervision.
- Observes and inspects the contractors' work in progress to ensure the job specifications are followed and that exceptions are noted.
- Reports discrepancies between the job specifications/SOW and the job performed by the contractor to responsible project manager.
- Communicate with the project managers responsible on a regular basis with regards to scope of work or any changes in the field.
- Complete daily inspection reports upon completion of the shift and send the information to respective project manager.
- Communicate with project manager at the end of every shift via email with job updates to provide client with status reports.
- Take and upload all photos and inspection reports promptly upon shift completion.
- Label Splice Enclosures w/ P-Touch Labels and Ink Pens. Tag and label all conduits, cables and termination panels.
- Prepares "As-built" records to be delivered to responsible project manager for As-built drawings
- Travel daily to job site as needed
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of construction practices and techniques related to utility work.
- Ability to complete work according to customer specifications and requirements.
- Must be able to work independently
- Must be able to work night shift hours (7PM to 3AM), will be compensated for night shift versus day shift.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
- Experience in designing and documenting Outside/Inside Plant Fiber Optic Cable Installations.
- Outside Plant Telecom work experience along with OSP engineering, a plus.
- OSHA and Confined Space Certifications, a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Lift 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Ability to walk and/or stand for a majority of a shift.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoor under variable environmental conditions.
