Overview
Our client is seeking a Data Center & IT Field Operations Technician to join their team. This position serves as a primary technical resource responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting data center infrastructure and local office IT systems. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who can take full ownership of data center operations including coordinating hardware racking, running cable plans, and resolving hardware failures while balancing day-to-day user support in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
• Take complete operational ownership of the data center, coordinating cable planning, equipment racking, and layout with Data Center Operations.
• Perform hands-on data center maintenance, including installing, replacing, and troubleshooting server and storage array hardware failures.
• Inspect and resolve physical wiring issues involving both Ethernet and fiber connections.
• Perform SAN zoning on Cisco MDS switches to establish secure connectivity between storage infrastructure and servers.
• Install and configure VMware virtualization environments.
• Set up and maintain out-of-band management systems on Dell and HPE servers.
• Image, configure, and deploy Windows 10 and 11 workstations for end users.
• Work with serial communications for hardware console management and configuration.
• Conduct daily morning walk-throughs of control rooms to check in with shift managers and resolve emerging IT support needs
Required Skills & Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent degree; technical training or associate degree preferred.
• 2 to 4 years of experience working in data center environments, hands-on IT field support, or system administration.
• Strong technical background in Dell and HPE server hardware, storage arrays, and physical layer networking (Ethernet and fiber cabling).
• Hands-on experience configuring out-of-band management interfaces (iDRAC, iLO) and installing VMware ESXi.
• Practical understanding of Cisco MDS switch zoning and storage area network (SAN) connectivity.
• Solid working knowledge of Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems and workstation imaging techniques.
• Familiarity with serial communication protocols and console connections.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer-service mindset.
• Strong self-management skills with the proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take full ownership of assigned environments
