This is a hybrid position. Candidates must be willing to work onsite in Oakbrook Terrace on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Candidates will work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
Overview & Responsibilities
Our client is looking for an individual to join the Financial Planning & Analysis team of a major utility company, contributing directly to core financial operations. We are seeking an experienced Financial Analyst to manage month-end close, forecasting, and long-range budgeting activities. In this role, you will collaborate closely with program managers and finance leadership, ensuring the accuracy and timely delivery of financial information and reports. Responsibilities will include:
Perform month-end closing activities, including preparing and booking journal entries, performing general ledger corrections, and handling accruals.
Lead the monthly financial forecast (Latest Estimate) process by updating actual results and gathering forecast data from program managers.
Support the bi-annual, 5-year budget development process.
Prepare routine and ad-hoc financial reports using Microsoft Excel.
Develop financial presentations (PowerPoint) for review by senior leadership.
Assemble financial data for annual summary reports and potential regulatory filings.
Present financial performance and forecasts to internal leadership teams.
Liaise with program managers on financial matters, potentially assisting with process training.
Required Qualifications
5 years of relevant experience in Accounting or Finance roles OR 10 years of direct finance work experience if you do not hold a Bachelor's degree.
Demonstrated, hands-on experience with month-end close procedures, financial forecasting, and budget preparation.
Extensive experience in financial, planning, and analysis (FP&A).
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, particularly for financial reporting and analysis.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to reconcile financial data back to the general ledger.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Experience using or developing reports in Microsoft Power BI.
Experience creating and delivering financial presentations to VP-level or higher audiences.
Experience with multi-year or long-range financial planning.
