What are the responsibilities and job description for the Microbiology Lab Technician position at NSF International?
As a Technician II in the Microbiology lab you will perform laboratory procedures and preparation work to assist in the support of analytical testing. As a Technician II you will also support microbiology staff with lab QC, media and reagent preparation, and waste disposal.
Principal Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform laboratory procedures by following proscribed processes to achieve results that meet accreditation and policy requirements.
- Perform laboratory procedures with minimal supervision
- Perform maintenance with minimal supervision
- Work with microbiology laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, autoclaves
- Document data and reports in lab worksheets on the computer (excel spreadsheets)
- Preparation work for analytical testing
- Participate in project and process improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- 1-5 years of experience working in a microbiology laboratory
- Detail oriented
- Ability to follow procedures and directions
- Ability to work independently
- Good knowledge of Windows applications such as Microsoft Excel and Word
- Knowledge of basic laboratory skills
- Ability to document data in lab worksheets / computer
- Knowledge of chemical names and mathematical formulas
- Ability to use basic laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, autoclaves
- Perform laboratory procedures with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow quality requirements
- Ability to use light and fluorescence microscope
- Ability to lift/carry heavy items
- High school diploma/GED required plus laboratory experience and/or college level laboratory coursework; AAS/BS degree is a plus.
- Flexible shift required
- Evening shift 1pm-9:30pm (shift premium offered)
- Rotating Saturday Shifts required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work experience in a food microbiology laboratory.
- A minimum of two (2) years related work experience in a laboratory.
- Associates or bachelor degree preferred
