MIG Aluminum Structural Welder – Indoor Shipyard
Location: New Orleans, LA
Pay: From $29.75/hour $140/day per diem (non-local candidates)

NSC Staffing is hiring experienced Aluminum Structural Welders for major shipyard projects in New Orleans, LA. This role supports U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and hovercraft vessel new construction, repair, and modernization programs.

Position Overview
As an Aluminum Structural Welder, you will perform GMAW aluminum welding aboard vessels and in fabrication shops. You will support structural repairs and new construction while ensuring all work meets NAVSEA, MSC, and ABS quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform MIG (GMAW) aluminum structural welding on ship repair and modernization projects
- Safely operate welding machines, hand tools, and power tools
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings
- Complete Condition Reports and job documentation as required
- Lead and assist assigned helpers when applicable
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and shipyard safety requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of shipyard experience as an Aluminum or Structural Welder
- Proficient in GMAW (MIG) aluminum welding
- Ability to read drawings, weld symbols, and job specifications
- Basic math skills; ability to work with U.S. and metric measurements
- Ability to meet shipyard physical and safety requirements, including PPE use
Weld Test Requirements
Candidates must successfully pass an Aluminum MIG Welding Test, including:
- (2) 10mm aluminum plates tacked in a “T” configuration
- (4) 3mm aluminum plates and (2) 4mm plates tacked into “T-box” configurations
- Machine preset verification and fillet weld inspection on a 10mm coupon
Work Environment
Work is performed in active shipyards, aboard vessels, and in industrial settings. Candidates must maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and teamwork in fast-paced environments.
