Senior Aluminum Shipfitter
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana

Job Type: Full-Time | Long-Term Contract
Pay: $28.75 per hour
Per Diem: $140/day for qualified travelers (must meet residency requirements)
Position Overview
Launch your maritime career with NSC Staffing in New Orleans, LA. We are seeking experienced Shipfitters with manufacturing, production, or shipbuilding experience for a long-term shipyard project supporting vessel construction for the U.S. Military.

Job Responsibilities
Shipfitter duties include, but are not limited to:
- Measure, layout, cut, grind, form, drill, and fabricate materials including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, gasket, rubber, and screen
- Perform tack welding on aluminum structures
- Work from engineering drawings, sketches, blueprints, written and verbal instructions, or computer-based work documents
- Retrieve and interpret work instructions and technical documentation
- Maintain required records, logs, and forms
- Use MIG and TIG welders and a wide range of hand, pneumatic, electric, and cordless tools including grinders, saws, drills, porta power, come-a-longs, clamps, tapes, and scales
- Handle chemicals and solvents such as cleaning solvents, cutting oil, and tool oil
- Maintain daily housekeeping of shop and work areas
- Visually inspect completed work for accuracy, completeness, and dimensional correctness
- Direct helpers or assistants as assigned
Job Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of shipfitting experience working from blueprints
- Experience tack welding aluminum structures
- Formal craft training demonstrating blueprint and engineering drawing comprehension
- Ability to layout and fabricate parts from blueprints
- Knowledge of fabrication testing procedures
- Ability to perform shop math and understand the metric measurement system
- Basic computer skills
- Willingness to work rotating shifts
- Flexibility to work extended hours with little or no notice based on production needs
- Naval craft or shipyard experience strongly preferred
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
