Position Overview
The Marine Outboard Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, adjusting, and overhauling outboard boat engines. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to interpret defects accurately, and a commitment to quality workmanship and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Engine Maintenance & Repair
- Diagnose, adjust, repair, and overhaul outboard boat engines.
- Maintain and repair engines with an emphasis on Evinrude outboard engines.
- Analyze defects and repair electrical and mechanical systems of outboard motors.
- Perform routine and preventative engine maintenance.
- Disassemble engines and inspect components using hand tools, gauges, and diagnostic equipment.
- Identify defective parts and determine appropriate repairs.
- Replace components such as gears, magneto points, piston rings, spark plugs, and related engine parts.
- Reassemble engines and verify proper operation.
- Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.
- Follow all work rules, safety procedures, and company policies.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow supervisory direction.
- Interact professionally with supervisors and co?workers.
- Accept constructive feedback and demonstrate initiative and commitment.
- Perform additional tasks as requested or assigned.
Position Requirements
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of marine, military, shipyard, or related industry experience required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work within time constraints.
- Strong problem?solving skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and implement solutions.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with outboard engine systems.
Access & Clearance Requirements
- This position may require access to U.S. government or military facilities.
- Candidates must be eligible to obtain base access clearance, including passing a background check.
- Must present valid government?issued identification. REAL ID?compliant identification or a valid U.S. passport is required to meet federal access requirements.
