What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Contracts position at NSABP Foundation, Inc.?
This is a hybrid position located in Pittsburgh, PA requiring 3 days in the office and 2 days remote work.
PURPOSE
Under the administration of the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Contracts will contribute to the support of breast and colorectal cancer research and the management of clinical trials by managing the Contracts Team that is involved in drafting and negotiating contracts, amendments and other legally binding documents using original research and previous documents as templates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
60% of Time
Contract Review and Coordination
- Review contracts, amendments and other legally binding documents drafted by Team members.
- Review various complex documents for areas of improvement or revision; create and revise documents and corresponding policies as appropriate.
- Oversee contractual relationship with pharmaceutical companies, vendors, and research collaborators.
- Assign tasks as necessary to Team members to ensure contract needs are properly met.
- Work with Contracts Team members to revise documents as necessary.
20% of Time
Contract Drafting and Negotiation
- Analyze documents to determine corporate risk; prepare and provide alternative approaches to mitigate the risk. Discuss risks and approaches with contract team and advise Senior Management accordingly.
- Work in conjunction with interdisciplinary teams to ensure contractual requirements are met; ensure adherence to those deliverables; openly communicate with other teams to deliver on milestones and commitments.
20% of Time
Team Management and Administration
- Oversee the Contracts Team to ensure that terms of finalized contracts are communicated to relevant parties to ensure compliance. Provide contract interpretation to support implementation.
- Review, approve and implement procedures for contract management and administration in compliance with company policy. As appropriate, contribute to and influence company policies.
- Provide guidance and support to Contracts Team through training, assignments, and review.
- Manage Team projects through coordination of meetings and work effort to produce effective results.
- Develop training and procedures necessary to keep Contracts Team on cutting edge of industry trends.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain professional knowledge by reviewing professional publications, attending professional meetings, and establishing personal networks.
- Understand the policies, procedures, regulations, and practices necessary to conduct the normal function of this position.
- Maintain confidentiality and perform duties in a responsible and ethical manner.
- Perform additional duties as may be assigned.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS
- JD degree required
- Ten years of contract administration experience preferred
- Experience with contract law, healthcare law, and pharmaceutical contracts strongly preferred
- Good negotiation skills and previous training in negotiations
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Organizational and time management skills to balance and prioritize work
- Interpersonal skills to communicate with contracting entities and support personnel
- Management experience preferred, preferably over a Contracts related group
- Ability to interact and contribute in a team environment while working independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to keep sensitive and confidential material private
- Ability to exercise creativity, judgment, and leadership capabilities in interpreting and solving complex problems
- Ability to assess existing structures and recommend measures to improve processes
