Director of Nursing (DON)
📍 Rome, GA | Full-Time
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing all clinical nursing operations within the facility under the supervision of the CEO and Medical Director. This leadership role provides 24-hour management of nursing services while ensuring exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and a therapeutic environment focused on recovery and healing. The DON will lead and supervise nursing and behavioral health staff, collaborate closely with physicians and multidisciplinary teams, and ensure all clinical services are delivered in accordance with State and Federal regulations, JCAHO standards, ASAM criteria, and other applicable accrediting organizations.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of all nursing and clinical operations
- Maintain an effective clinical organizational structure and delegate responsibilities appropriately
- Lead multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and daily patient staffing discussions
- Oversee nursing admissions, ongoing patient care, medication management, and discharge planning
- Supervise nursing staff and Mental Health Technicians (MHTs), including scheduling, training, and performance management
- Recruit, interview, onboard, and mentor clinical staff
- Ensure compliance with all State, Federal, JCAHO, ASAM, HIPAA, OSHA, and facility standards
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives
- Monitor and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and treatment programs
- Collaborate with physicians and ancillary departments to coordinate patient care
- Facilitate staff development, education, and ongoing in-service training
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and reporting
- Respond effectively during emergencies and crisis situations
- Participate in clinical and administrative meetings to support interdepartmental communication and operational success
- Promote a positive, professional, and patient-centered therapeutic environment
- Ensure patient rights are protected and report any concerns immediately
- Perform additional duties and leadership responsibilities as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of nursing experience, including leadership or management experience, preferably within behavioral health, detox, addiction treatment, psychiatric care, or residential healthcare settings
- Minimum of 1 year of substance abuse and inpatient treatment experience required
- Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia
- Strong working knowledge of JCAHO, ASAM, CQI, HIPAA, OSHA, and other healthcare regulatory standards
- Proven leadership, staff development, and crisis management skills
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to effectively lead multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Self-motivated, professional, and confident with strong critical thinking skills
- CPR/BLS certification required
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in substance abuse treatment, detox, behavioral health, or psychiatric facilities strongly preferred
- Previous experience overseeing clinical compliance, audits, and accreditation readiness
- Familiarity with performance improvement initiatives and quality assurance programs
- Experience developing nursing workflows, policies, and clinical procedures
