Position Summary:
The Fire Alarm Safety Technician is responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm, detection, and life safety systems. This position ensures all work is performed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and company policies. The technician plays a vital role in protecting people, property, and assets by ensuring that life safety systems function properly and reliably.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Install, program, and service fire alarm and detection systems in commercial and industrial facilities.
- Conduct inspections and tests of fire alarm systems to ensure compliance with NFPA 72, local codes, and customer requirements.
- Troubleshoot and repair system faults, wiring issues, and device failures.
- Perform preventive maintenance on fire alarm control panels, initiating devices, and notification appliances.
- Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and specifications for installation and service.
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with applicable electrical and safety codes.
- Coordinate work with other trades, contractors, and clients to minimize disruptions.
- Complete all required documentation including test forms, service tickets, and inspection reports.
- Maintain accurate inventory of parts, tools, and materials used on the job.
- Respond promptly to service calls and emergency situations.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Follow all company and site-specific safety protocols, including PPE requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience installing or servicing fire alarm or life safety systems.
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, and local fire codes.
- Ability to read and interpret fire alarm blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Experience with systems such as Notifier, Fire-Lite, Siemens, Edwards, or similar.
- Proficiency in using electrical test equipment (e.g., multimeters, signal testers, loop testers).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Commitment to workplace and site safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NICET Level II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems.
- Factory training or certification from a major fire alarm manufacturer.
- OSHA 10- or 30-hour safety certification.
- Experience with integration between fire alarm and HVAC control systems.
- Experience working in commercial, healthcare, or institutional environments.
