Job Description

About the Role:

As a Permitting and Interconnection Coordinator, you will play a critical role in ensuring solar projects move smoothly from sale to installation by managing all aspects of permitting and utility interconnection. You'll be the bridge between our internal teams, city/county building departments, utility companies, and AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction). Your ability to stay organized, follow up consistently, and navigate regulatory requirements will directly impact project timelines and customer satisfaction.

This is a fast-paced, detail-oriented position ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and knows how to keep multiple moving pieces aligned.

Key Responsibilities:

Permitting:

  • Prepare and submit permit applications to local city, county, and state building departments.
  • Track and manage permit statuses, expirations, corrections, and revisions across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with local permitting authorities to streamline approval processes and stay current on code and policy changes.
  • Work closely with design, sales, and operations teams to ensure permit packets are accurate and complete.
  • Schedule and coordinate building inspections as needed.

Interconnection:

  • Submit interconnection applications to utilities for residential and commercial solar projects.
  • Manage utility communications to track progress, provide additional documentation, and respond to technical reviews or rejections.
  • Ensure compliance with utility-specific interconnection requirements and timelines.
  • Coordinate PTO (Permission to Operate) processes and ensure timely close-out of projects.
  • Keep detailed records of interconnection statuses and ensure all required documentation is submitted correctly and on time.

Cross-functional Coordination:

  • Collaborate with project managers, design engineers, and installation teams to ensure all documentation and application requirements are met.
  • Maintain accurate project records in internal databases and project management platforms (e.g., Salesforce).
  • Communicate proactively with stakeholders regarding delays, milestones, or action items.

Qualifications:

  • 1–3 years of experience in permitting, interconnection, or project coordination—solar or construction industry preferred.
  • Familiarity with building codes, permitting processes, and utility interconnection procedures.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing a high volume of projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and project tracking software (experience with Salesforce or similar CRM is a plus).
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep knowledge of California's solar permitting processes, AHJ requirements, and utility interconnection policies for major utilities (LADWP, SCE, SDG&E, PG&E, etc.).
  • Strong command of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and California Fire Code (CFC) as they pertain to solar installations

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience reading site plans or construction documents.
  • Understanding of solar PV systems and components (inverters, panels, meters, etc.).
