Position Summary
NRD, LLC is seeking a Nuclear Engineer who will be responsible for overseeing the safe handling, tracking, packaging and disposal of radioactive materials and radioactive waste. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements through proper inventory control, radiation monitoring, and ensuring the safe transfer and disposal of radioactive materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate inventory of radioactive material quantities including storage location and usage status
- Implement proper storage conditions for short- and long-lived radioactive materials
- Develop and maintain guidelines and policies related to the packaging and shipping of nuclear materials
- Ensure correct labeling and packaging of hazardous materials
- Assist in the design and implementation of internal waste treatment and waste volume reduction systems and strategies
- Identify and classify radioactive waste, hazardous waste, and mixed waste
- Prepares documents and reports associated with waste material processing, storage, shipping and disposal
- Supervise the waste operators to ensure safe and timely treatment of liquid and solid waste byproducts
- Assist in performing radiation surveys and contamination checks in storage areas
- Must be or be able to be medically cleared to wear respiratory protection
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted
- Must obtain and maintain Trustworthy and Reliable approved status under 10 CFR 37
Qualifications & Skills Required
- Must be a US Citizen
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Radiological Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- 2 years of relevant experience, or internship in nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management, or nuclear storage projects.
- Knowledgeable of 10 NYCRR 16, 10 CFR 20, or other regulations utilized to implement the Radiation Safety Program
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Eagerness to learn and grow in a highly regulated and safety focused environment
- Strong analytical and project management skills.
Preferred but not Mandatory
- NMC&A Certified
- Direct experience interacting with NRC, DOE, EPA or other state level authorities
Due to contractual requirements and/or security clearance regulations associated with this position, candidates must be U.S. citizens. Proof of citizenship will be required.
Salary Range
$65,000 - $115,000 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and qualifications.
Final compensation will be determined by experience, skills, and overall alignment with the role.
