Lab Supervisor

Key Responsibilities

NRD, LLC is seeking a Health Physics Supervisor to oversee Health Physics technicians, coordinates radiological survey and monitoring activities, and assists the Director of Health Physics with implementation, execution and continuous improvement of the Radiation Safety Program. This position works under the direction of the Director of Health Physics.

The ideal candidate is an experienced lab supervisor with demonstrated leadership skills who can provide effective technical direction, demonstrate sound technical judgment, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements all to promote a safe working environment through effective radiation protection practices.

Essential Function

• Supervise the daily activities and work assignments of the Health Physics team and assist in completing the activities and assignments when necessary.
• Schedule Health Physics staff to support production, laboratory operations, maintenance activities, and RWPs/special projects.
• Review radiological survey records, laboratory data, and Health Physics documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Assist the Director of Health Physics in implementing and improving the Radiation Safety Program and facility Health and Safety Program.
• Coordinate daily operational checks, facilitate equipment maintenance and calibration, and ensure timely completions of periodic inventory of check sources, materials and leak tests.
• When necessary, investigate radiological events, respond to radiological emergencies, and later identify corrective actions and assist with root cause analyses.
• Provide radiation protection guidance and technical support to all staff.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with NRC, New York State Department of Health, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
• Support radiological incident response, investigations, and corrective actions.
• Prepare technical reports, survey records, and regulatory documentation.
• Develop proficiency with facility radioactive materials licenses, permits, procedures, and Health Physics program documentation and serve as an operational resource that supports document review and updates.
• Perform other Radiation Safety, Health Physics, and general health & safety duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics, Radiation Protection, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or another closely related scientific or engineering discipline.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in a laboratory or industrial environment utilizing radioactive materials, hazardous chemicals, or other regulated hazardous materials.
• Minimum of two years (2) years of experience supervising or leading technical employees, including assigning work, training personnel, evaluating performance, and coordinating daily operations.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety practices and/or contamination control principles.
• Past experience ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and mentoring skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to procedural compliance.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with and ability to operate standard office equipment, laboratory equipment, and computerized data acquisition systems.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform work in controlled laboratory and manufacturing environments.

Salary Range

$55,000- $75,000. Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be determined by experience, skills, and overall alignment with the role.

Citizenship Requirement

This position is restricted to U.S. citizens in compliance with federal regulations and contractual requirements. Candidates must be able to provide proof of citizenship and may be required to obtain a security clearance
