Materials Science Engineer (Aerospace)

Overview
Seeking a Materials Science Engineer to support aerospace materials and processes through supplier audits, failure analysis, and project execution. This role combines hands-on technical investigation with supplier oversight and project coordination within an R&D environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform on-site and virtual audits of aerospace materials and process suppliers (heat treat, plating, welding, machining, coatings, etc.)
- Conduct failure analysis using metallography, fractography, SEM/EDX, and image analysis
- Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions; document findings in formal reports
- Manage multiple investigations and projects, ensuring cost, schedule, and quality objectives are met
- Interface with internal teams, customers, and third-party agencies; present technical results
- Maintain engineering records, databases, and compliance with aerospace standards
- Support continuous improvement and technical best practices
Qualifications
- BS in Materials Science, Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering (MS preferred)
- 2–4 years of relevant aerospace materials experience
- Strong background in metallurgy, coatings, heat treatment, welding, corrosion, fatigue/fracture
- Hands-on experience with SEM/EDS, metallography, and failure analysis techniques
- Ability to manage projects, costs, and schedules effectively
