We have recently been engaged by the Director of Research and Development for an OEM global leader in the development, manufacture, and commercialization of innovative assays and instruments for the life sciences, clinical, and diagnostic applications. More recently and as a part of Operation Warp Speed, this private mid-sized company quietly became the global leader for serology assays for vaccine partners in the battle against Covid. As they continue to grow in both organizational size and sectors they can service they require a Senior Manager II.

Job Description

A Scientific Manager II is responsible for overseeing multiple development programs and initiatives across multiple product areas such as assays, reagents and/or instruments. The incumbent will manage multiple teams and/or sub teams and is responsible for the management of support planning to meet project objectives in the areas of life sciences, clinical and diagnostic applications.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Manage teams of scientists and research associates; provide technical and project leadership
  • Make decisions on deployment of resources; prepare resource and material plans and well as annual budgets and justifications
  • Facilitate and encourage professional development of teams and team members through mentorship and training
  • Coach team and guide managers to coach their reports
  • May lead and provide senior guidance to Project Teams
  • Contribute to leadership of R&D team
  • Extensive cross-functional interaction with other departments and managers and leads
  • Drive product development and services projects to completion on schedule
  • Interface with customers on specific project results and objectives
  • Responsibility/accountability for project deliverables/timelines
  • Understand, follow and enforce laboratory safety precautions to ensure compliance with company safety policies
  • Effective cross functional interaction with management
  • Prepare reports for Director and may provide reporting to senior management
  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements

Experience And Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Engineering or related field
  • Minimum six years of experience in a research, clinical related, or product development environment
  • Master’s degree may be considered with a minimum eight years of relevant experience and proven technical abilities
  • Experience with protein chemistry, immunology, immunoassays and antibody-based assays
  • Excellent academic record and strong scientific fundamentals
  • Experience in ISO, GMP, and/or Design Control are highly desired
  • Industry experience with product development, including experience with quality systems, is desired

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Strong scientific fundamentals and analytical background
  • Logical problem solving and demonstrated ability to organize and move project tasks forward in an orderly and structured fashion.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including overall project planning, troubleshooting, meeting deadlines, and effectively allocating resources to meet project deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent product development from feasibility to launch
  • Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of laboratory data
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervisor the work of others
  • Effectively communicate performance goals and expectations
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task and work productively in a demanding work environment with changing priorities
