What are the responsibilities and job description for the SANITATION SUPERVISOR I (SPK) - 1st shift position at NOW Foods Branding?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Monitors sanitary operations and practices to ensure hygienic standards are achieved. Establishes and maintains standard operating procedures for sanitation operations. Inspects equipment and facility for conformity to regulations and plant standards.
- Maintains and monitors Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Ensures that staffing required to accomplish tasks is available and that material resources (e.g., chemicals, tools, etc.) needed are available. Purchases all cleaning chemicals, supplies, tools, and equipment required for sanitation tasks and ensures purchases are made cost-effectively and that they meet all GMP requirements.
- Provides training and coaching on all cleaning and sanitation practices and documentation. Trains employees in proper chemical handling and lockout and tagout procedures.
- Works with the maintenance, quality, and manufacturing areas to ensure sanitation-related equipment PMs are completed promptly and works with these departments to schedule hours for general clean-up.
- Identifies sanitation problems and recommends changes in equipment, processes, and work practices to improve sanitation standards.
- Suggests and implements continuous improvement ideas and changes in work instructions, labor resources, and training needs.
- Manages the adherence to procedures to ensure that quality (relating to Sanitation) meets or exceeds goals. Conducts pre-operational inspections before releasing equipment to the Total Quality Department.
- Compiles and maintains required reports and documentation regarding inspections, schedules, inventories, sanitary violations, and steps to resolve deficiencies.
- Ensures that policies, safety rules, FSMA standards, and GMPs are followed and enforced and that continual improvement is made towards an injury-free environment.
- Ensures key performance indicators in the sanitation area are met or exceeded and that the sanitation process is cost-effective, GMP compliant, and meets all goals. Monitors the sanitation budget to ensure it is within limits.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT
Supports a culture of safe production and exhibits safe work practices. Actively participates in the safety program by engaging in safety activities. Effectively provides and accepts constructive peer-to-peer feedback on safety performance. Adheres to policies, procedures, SOPs, safe work practices, and safety policies and procedures (SPP). Reports ALL workplace incidents to a manager immediately. Communicate concerns to the manager, report hazards, and provide input on prevention. Properly uses, wears, and stores Personal Protective Equipment when required. Participates in safety teams and/or completes safety-related activities as part of regular job responsibilities. Responsible for safe work performance in the area. Ensures the completion of job safety analyses, safety inspections, and employee training. Acts as a primary communicator of safe work practices and information to the department. Facilitates employees’ participation in the safety activity card program and on safety teams. Complete incident investigation reports and submit them to the manager by the end of the shift on which the incident is reported. Conducts safety contacts and documents corrective and preventative actions. Enforces company policies, procedures, SOPs, SPP, and safe work practices.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises Sanitation employees on all three shifts. Carries out supervisory responsibilities per the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree and five years related experience in a food manufacturing or GMP environment OR seven years of related experience in a food manufacturing or GMP environment OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a GMP environment is
- Intermediate skills in Word and Excel required.
- Ability to work with regulatory inspectors (FSMA, OSHA, Health Department, EPA, City and County Inspectors)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, or visitors. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bi-lingual (written and oral) in Spanish is preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
