ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.
  • Tests materials as assigned by priority listing provided daily by QC management using various types of equipment - pH meter, HPLC, GC, HPTLC, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, IC, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectrometer, CDR FoodLabFat analyzer, PPSL, ELISA, auto titrators, titrations, automatic liquid testers and balances.
  • Performs data interpretation, reporting and evaluates data and documentation completeness.
  • Revises and reviews SOPs as needed.
  • Provides guidance and training to technicians and chemists.
  • Assists and conducts method transfers and method validation in coordination with methods group.
  • Records and evaluates data and documentation for completeness.
  • Initiates out-of-spec investigations.
  • Performs various housekeeping duties in the lab including restocking supplies, disposing of hazardous waste, instrument maintenance and requalification.
  • Performs data review as needed.
  • Coordinates instrument repairs and yearly PM, and calibrations.
  • Coordinates with other departments on REQ approval.
  • Other tasks as assign by management.

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from four-year College or technical school in laboratory science field (i.e. chemistry, biology, etc.) and two to five years laboratory experience including hands on instrumental analysis (such as FT-NIR, HPLC, HPTLC, GC, IC, ICP/MS, ICP/OES, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS and UV/Vis).
  • Familiarity with general laboratory safety, procedures and instrumentation.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with database management systems and chromatography data systems such as Oracle, LIMS and Chromeleon are required.
  • Knowledge and application of cGMP regulations.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as product specifications, departmental instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to communicate and work with peers and management in a transparent and professional manner.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, averages, ratios, proportions, and the metric system to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

  • Able to compare results obtained to specifications to determine if result meets requirements. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of chemistry laboratory instrumentation and standard operating procedures required. Excellent time management, meeting deadlines, attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills, listening, decision-making, troubleshooting/problem solving and organization skills required.  Must possess strong organizational skills, be a self-starter and able to handle multiple tasks.  Must possess professional attitude and be able to work well with peers and management.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is required to regularly use a telephone, a computer and analytical instrumentation and devices.  The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Strong visual abilities are required, including close vision, accurate color perception, and the capacity to adjust focus as needed for detailed tasks.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

 

The employee is frequently exposed to vapors, herbal aromas and various temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The employee may be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals and biological materials.  Safety training and personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
