Position: Controller
Schedule: M-F, Full-time, Hybrid
Location: Washington CH, OH
Compensation: $140,000-$150,000
NOW CFO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to support one of our valued clients in the specialty construction contracting industry. This role will support the Director of Operations by managing day-to-day accounting functions and leading the monthly financial close. The Controller will help ensure timely financial reporting, accurate job cost accounting, and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
We are seeking accounting professionals with strong experience in project-based environments, including construction accounting. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing core accounting operations while helping improve processes as the business grows. Strong Excel skills, accounting systems experience, and a solid understanding of WIP accounting and job costing are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Perform monthly close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) adjustments
- Manage job costing and job closeout activities, including related journal entries
- Perform bank reconciliations and promptly resolve uncleared items
- Support payroll through reconciliation of payroll-related accounts
- Understand prevailing wage requirements and reporting
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reporting packages
- Help define and improve accounting processes as the business grows and completes updates for SOX compliance
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Strong proficiency in Viewpoint Spectrum or similar accounting software
- Advanced Excel skills
- Solid understanding of full-cycle accounting processes, including general ledger, AR, AP, payroll, and financial reconciliations
- Experience in a project-based accounting environment, including WIP accounting and job costing
- Proactive and adaptable work style with the ability to learn new processes and research solutions
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA certification or progress toward CPA
- Familiarity with percentage-of-completion revenue recognition under ASC 606
- Experience implementing process improvements or automation in accounting workflows
