What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Financial Officer (Non-Profit Organization) position at Now CFO?
NOW CFO is partnered with a non-profit organization that is in search of a CFO to become a permanent member of their team in Santa Barbara! The CFO will report to the Director, with responsibility for providing staff support to the audit committee and attending meetings with the Board of Trustees. You will contribute to policy making and management, and provide oversight for all financial aspects of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Direct accounting and related financial activities of the organization to ensure sound fiscal administration.
- Recommend policies and establish internal control procedures to safeguard assets.
- Manage the Finance Office to ensure that the organizations accounting, financial, and retail systems are performed effectively; directing cash activities to maintain appropriate cash levels.?
- Supervise the Finance Manager, Accounting Assistant, and Organization Manager
- Ensure that restricted donations are properly accounted for and that proper records are maintained of all temporarily restricted, board-designated, endowment and quasi-endowment funds.?
- Serve as a liaison to Senior Staff and project managers on accounting/financial matters; responsible for budget preparation, administration, review and approval of budget programs.
- Work with Director of Human Resources to prepare and monitor salary and benefit schedules and administer approved staff compensation.
- Direct preparation, review and analysis of monthly financial reports to ensure the financial condition is in accordance with guidelines established by Director and Board.
- Prepare/maintain financial projections for long-range planning.
- Monitor the investment portfolio; implementing policies as approved by the Investment Committee.
- Direct preparation for annual audit and coordinate issuance of annual financial statements.
- Manage preparation of tax returns, information returns and related reports to ensure compliance with governmental reporting requirements.
- Prepare financial portion of grant reports/billings to ensure compliance with requirements and policies of funding sources.
- Manage financial risk management program:? work with insurance brokers to obtain adequate insurance and with Director of Human Resources on selection of appropriate health insurance and employee benefit plans; negotiate and/or approve contracts and ensure certificates of insurance are obtained as needed.?
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, Master's preferred
- Five years experience in nonprofit administration and two years fund accounting experience
- Minimum of ten years of progressive experience and responsibility in field of accounting
- Previous experience working with Board of Directors required
- CPA is a plus
