Surgical Support Technician – Operating Room (Day Shift) – York, PA
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct-Hire (Permanent placement on company payroll with immediate full benefits; not a temporary job)
Location: York, PA 17408 (On-site –Hospital setting)
Schedule: Day Shift (Orientation: Mon–Fri, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. Post-Orientation Option: Five 8-hour shifts [7:00 AM – 3:30 PM] OR Four 10-hour shifts [7:00 AM – 5:30 PM])
New Hire Starting Base Pay: $19.00 – $21.40 per hour (Starting pay based on experience, with clear advancement pathways as you build specialized expertise.)
Future Earning Potential: Established employees have the opportunity to earn progressive pay increases up to $28.60 per hour over time through performance, tenure, and continuous learning.
How You'll Make an Impact
- OR Turnover & Environment Prep: Maintain a sterile, safe environment by keeping operating rooms clean and organized, managing linens, and assisting with the opening of supplies to establish sterile fields.
- Direct Patient Care Support: Work under the direct supervision of an RN to safely move, transfer, and position patients on and off the bed in the OR suite prior to and following surgical procedures.
- Surgical Instrumentation Management: Assist nurses with the setup and ordering of instrument trays, communicating daily with Sterile Processing (SPD) to identify incomplete trays or broken tools.
- Clinical Equipment & Specimen Transport: Carefully transport biological specimens to the laboratory and assist with the cleaning and maintenance of specialty equipment (e.g., lasers, video towers, microscopes).
- Interdisciplinary Communication: Communicate proactively with anesthesia providers and operating room staff to prioritize case flows, remaining accessible in the OR at all times to anticipate the clinical team's needs.
What We’re Looking For – Minimum Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare role required (OR current enrollment in a healthcare training program with at least one completed clinical rotation).
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Technical Skills: Basic computer proficiency for checking daily schedules and clinical communications.
- Industry Knowledge: Basic understanding of hospital standard precautions, patient safety protocols, and sterile field guidelines.
- Soft Skills: Ability to actively receive and implement feedback, strong teamwork orientation, effective communication skills, and the physical stamina to assist with patient positioning.
