The BioPharm & Strategy team leads all US commercial efforts and Strategic Direction for Novo Nordisk's biopharmaceutical portfolio, which includes innovative products in the hemophilia and growth disorders therapeutic classes and new products in the pipeline. The Position

The Director - Field Reimbursement will oversee, coach and develop all Field Reimbursement Managers (FRM). Lead the Field Reimbursement team which is meant to create awareness with healthcare professional (HCPs) and their staff about the NordiCare patient support program and to respond appropriately to HCPs and their staff about questions regarding coverage, reimbursement and patient access issues for Norditropin. The Field Reimbursement team does not promote Norditropin, nor otherwise seek to influence prescribing decisions.


Relationships

Reporting to the Senior Director, Growth Disorders Marketing, the Director Field Reimbursement will oversee patient access initiatives at the physician practice level to facilitate appropriate patient access to Norditropin.


The Director Field Reimbursement may collaborate appropriately with other Novo Nordisk Inc (NNI) field-based personnel, such as Field-Based Sales and Market Access teams, to facilitate appropriate Norditropin patient access. This may include sharing high-level updates on Norditropin coverage and reimbursement trends/payer policies and requirements, but the Director may not discuss any specific patient case nor detailed office issues with any such NNI personnel.


The successful candidate will build and maintain positive and appropriate relationships with internal NNI colleagues and HCP offices to facilitate Norditropin access.


The Director Field Reimbursement will collaborate with the NNI Patient Support Program (PSP) department and vendor who administers the NordiCare patient support program. Regular contact is expected with HCP-office designated NordiCare case management and supervisor staff to resolve patient access issues for Norditropin.


Essential Functions

  • Direct and develop Field Reimbursement team (FRMs) to facilitate appropriate patient access and support HCP processes for timely patient care and access
  • Reporting to Senior Director, will lead the process to determine overall approach of the FRM team across both BioPharm and the larger NNI organization, including reimbursement support, reporting structure and leadership responsibility
  • Reads, monitors and analyzes data to identify patient access support program requirements, potential trends and execution issues and proactively communicates knowledge to appropriate NNI personnel and takes appropriate action to facilitate appropriate enhancements, changes and operational efficiencies
  • Conduct regularly scheduled patient support vendor site visits as needed
  • Work across Market Access, Marketing, Sales teams and NordiCare to assist with any identified potential program-level escalations
  • Work in conjunction with finance, legal, regulatory and compliance personnel across relevant program details and consult with NNI leadership to determine best structure and approach in future ideations
  • Work closely with NordiCare to facilitate complete, accurate and timely benefits investigation and provide prior authorization and appeals support, as requested
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices across Field Reimbursement Team
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication and account management skills and knowledge of Norditropin and NordiCare to both BioPharm and executive leadership
  • Understand and communicate internally key long and short-range changes in the coverage and reimbursement policies under Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers and plans that may impact Norditropin
  • Continual management and development the Field Reimbursement Team budget and other business unit planning requirements
  • Manage other projects as directed


Physical Requirements

75-90% overnight travel required.

Development of People

Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or business is required. Masters preferred
  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant pharmaceutical sales or reimbursement experience, including at least six (6) years of biologics sales experience, biologics medical and pharmacy benefit reimbursement experience or relevant experience in specialty markets
  • Development or day to day management of reimbursement strategy in BioPharm strongly preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience required
  • Experience in implementing biologics patient access initiatives, i.e. hub programs
  • Successful track record in field reimbursement support, medical affairs, or sales of biologics that required understanding of product coverage and reimbursement considerations under both a medical and a pharmacy benefit platform
  • Significant experience with understanding and interpreting government and commercial payer policies
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, along with complex problem solving, cross-functional project management skills and organizational skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate an outstanding work ethic, relationship management skills and have the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Demonstrated excellence in account planning and management
  • Experience in budget management
  • Must have a strong ability to work independently and cross functionally with other Novo Nordisk personnel
