Position Summary
The Production Planner will have direct responsibility for developing day to day and long-range production plans based upon incoming customer orders, stocking plans, obsolescence plans, and various other parameters. This position will also have direct responsibility to setup new parts, make engineering changes to parts, print product labels for manufacturing, and perform manufacturing variance closing and reporting. This position is expected to be actively involved in continual process improvements of this and other departments and will receive general guidance that are assigned by the Inventory Control Manager.
Essential Responsibilities
- Anticipates demands for production based upon reports, analysis, and historical information.
- Actively monitors incoming orders to production plans in such a way to assist with achievement of maximum efficiency and controlled costs.
- Works closely with operations and sales to make sure parts are setup and monitored for production cost via variance review.
- Sets up parts within a short time frame for quick customer delivery.
- Assigns barcode information for items per company policy.
- Assists with formulation, implements, and maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Works closely and collaboratively with all functions within the facility to solve problems and assists with special emphasis on interactions with purchasing, customer service, and operations.
- Understands and facilitates the production processes (flow, constraints, problem solving, time studies, Lean manufacturing concepts).
- Trains new hires or new departmental transfers.
- May work overtime, alternate time schedules, and weekends as needed on short notice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications (Required)
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Capacity to multi-task with speed and accuracy while prioritizing tasks and ability to maintain excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to functionally use a personal computer to perform detailed inquiries, update information, print reports, create, and modify items daily (i.e.: Microsoft products, WMS/ERP System, warehouse scanners).
- Working knowledge of the planning and scheduling processes and know how to apply the concepts.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems including Part Setup, Purchase Orders, Shop (work) Orders, BOM's, Routings, Outside Vendor processing.
- Ability to use the ERP system and to perform detailed inquires and analyses, update information, source products and or related services and prepare reports daily.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and diagrams.
- Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend, and execute written procedures and standard work instructions.
- Demonstrated basic math, interpersonal/team, and reasoning skills.
- Effectively uses required PPE and company approved tools with awareness of surroundings and potential safety hazards while maintaining a safe work area.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence with a proficiency in MS office applications.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Capability to communicate efficiently with all levels of employees, management, customers, and vendors both verbally and in written form.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
- Prior experience in distribution or manufacturing environment.
- One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
