What are the responsibilities and job description for the EHS Specialist position at Novia Corporation?
Overview:
Reporting to the HR Supervisor, the EHS Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining a culture that aligns with Novia Corporation’s safety mission; to work towards continuous improvement and promote positive change. This position is tasked with planning, implementing and managing programs to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all Novia Corporation employees, visitors, and environments. The EHS Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental, health and safety aspects of local, state and federal regulations. The EHS Specialist will work directly with senior management, Human Resources, Novia personnel and vendors to develop and maintain a culture of safe work practices and emergency preparedness.
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
Safety Programs
- Develop and manage programs that promote continuous improvement to ensure a safe, healthy, accident-free work environment.
- Prepare safety programs to ensure compliance with local and federal OSHA regulations. Such as, Hazard Communication, Bloodborne Pathogen Awareness, Hearing Conservation Program, Respiratory Program, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), etc.
- Complete and submit required municipal, state and federal reports as required. i.e. TIER II, OSHA 300, etc.
Safety Training
- Manage initial and periodic employee training to ensure compliance requirements. Such as, LOTO, HAZCOM, PPE requirements & limitations, JHA’S, Hearing exposure, etc.
- Provide safety preparations and training to new employees, contractors, and visitors at Novia.
- Manage Novia’s training schedule and records to ensure facility remains compliant and associates remain safe.
- Act as primary contact with local public safety officials to organize company-wide training. Such as, active threat and emergency evacuation training.
- Conduct weekly “shop talk” training with all shop associates. Topics to vary based on the needs of the business or popular topics with OSHA or within the safety community.
Safety Management
- Report and advise leadership team on key issues and areas of improvement. Present solutions to safety issues to ensure compliance and safety to employees while minimizing disruption of workflow.
- Work closely with Human Resources for Workers’ Compensation case management, Root Cause Analysis, return to work opportunities, and job accommodation.
- Manage OSHA log records, post when required. Ensure accidents and incidents are fully investigated and work with employees to ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Act as company representative for internal, 3rd party, and OSHA inspections.
Safety Miscellaneous
- Conduct periodic inspections & audits of Novia facility.
- Host and manage 3rd party EHS audits.
- Lead Novia EHS committee by facilitating meetings, assigning tasks, supporting members and ensuring completion of all initiatives.
- Review incidents, conduct facility inspections, make recommendations and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain, manage and facilitate action against comprehensive facility-wide EHS open issues list.
- Manage list of chemical inventory and corresponding SDS forms for material within facility.
- Manage near-miss, hazard identification, and incident investigations to develop solutions and minimize reoccurrence.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to work and set direction independently to meet program timelines.
- Demonstrates ability to identify, develop and deliver a variety of training topics.
- Strong relationship building and management skills desired.
- Detail oriented professional with excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task within a team-oriented environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Friendly and well spoken.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, email and data entry.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal guidelines.
- OSHA 10 & OSHA 30 a plus.
- Certifications Preferred - ASP,CSP, etc.
Other Information:
- Salary Range: $60,000-$85,000
- Salaried - Full Time (M-F; 8am-5pm)
- Weekly pay on Thursdays
