What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sterile Processing Technician Full-Time position at Novi Surgery Center LLC?
Job Summary:
Decontaminate and prepare for sterilization of all trays, instrumentation, and equipment used at Novi Surgery Center. Reprocess instrumentation between cases in a timely manner. Perform regular equipment checks, such as autoclave QI program, and maintain records/logs.

Employee will use computerized punch time system correctly
Employee completes all in-services and returns them in a timely fashion
Employee will attend annual review and department in-services, as scheduled
Employee will make best efforts to attend all staff meetings
Employee will represent Novi Surgery Center in a positive and professional manner
Employee will participate in Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement activities
Employee will comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
Employee will communicate the mission, ethics and goals of Novi Surgery Center
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Wash/decontaminate and assure presence of all instrumentation in trays. Process and correctly label all instruments and trays
Prepare for safe processing and storage of small or peel-pouched supplies
Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning, high level disinfectants, and processing methods, according to AORN and AAMI standards and manufacturer recommendations for all types of instruments and equipment utilized at Novi Surgery Center
Demonstrate proficiency in utilization of equipment such as autoclave, steris, and ultrasonic cleaner in accordance with AORN and AAMI standards, Novi Surgery Center’s policies and procedures, and manufacturer’s recommendations. Demonstrate ability to process instruments efficiently and properly between cases and at end of schedule
Perform immediate use steam sterilization, as needed.
Return sterile trays, instruments, and equipment to their proper storage location after processing
Regularly check trays, instrumentation, and sterile equipment for outdates and sterile package integrity
Communicate instrument and disposable restocking needs with Materials Manager
Perform daily/weekly Quality Assurance testing and maintain documentation/logs
Assure all expired sterilization products are disposed of properly when outdated
Act as a resource person to staff regarding instrumentation and processing equipment and techniques
Adhere to OSHA guidelines for Universal Precautions for exposure to blood and body fluids at all times, using appropriate personal protective equipment and sharps handling. Follows AORN recommended practices and Novi Surgery Center policies and procedures at all times
Professional/Regulatory Requirements:
High school diploma/GED (Associate’s Degree preferred)
Certification in Sterile Processing (preferred)
One to two years of sterile processing experience (preferred)
Prior knowledge and experience working with, cleaning, and processing surgical instrumentation and equipment
Prior experience working with an instrument tray system and sterile wrapping techniques (single and double wrapping and peel pouches)
Recognition of instrumentation and familiarity with medical terminology
Organized, self-motivated individual with sense of urgency who is capable of working independently and prioritizing work
