Position Summary 


We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Project Manager to lead the implementation and construction of our high-profile clean energy projects and make a meaningful impact within a small, collaborative, and growing company.  This role will be responsible for overseeing all phases of project execution—from pre-construction planning through commissioning and closeout—while coordinating closely with end-users, engineers, contractors, utilities, regulators, RTOs, and internal team members. 


The ideal candidate is a seasoned project manager with deep experience in renewable energy or infrastructure construction who is comfortable operating in a lean organization and taking ownership of complex project outcomes focused on safety, schedule, and cost. 


The position is based in our office in Novi, Michigan with frequent travel requirements (25-40%) depending on project needs.   


Essential Job Functions: 

Project Execution & Leadership 

  • Manage utility-scale solar project execution to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all technical, commercial, safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements to meet or exceed performance targets 
  • Develop and manage project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and performance metrics 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the owner, contractors, engineers, utilities, and other stakeholders 
  • Develop project status reports for schedule, costs, equipment, manpower, materials, safety and environment, quality control, and best practices/lessons learned programs  

Procurement, Construction & Contractor Management 

  • Conduct the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) selection process and contract execution 
  • Support EPC contract negotiations and manage the EPC contract through the life of the project 
  • Review and approve EPC and major subcontractor project execution plans and project schedules 
  • Interface with the owner’s engineer, interconnection utility, RTO, and other stakeholders to facilitate the EPC design review process 
  • Manage procurements and oversee the third-party QA/QC process, factory acceptance testing, shipping, and deliveries for owner-supplied equipment  
  • Collaborate with Construction Managers and Site Supervisors to ensure all necessary equipment, material, and resources are in place for field operations at appropriate times 
  • Oversee EPC and major subcontractor performance, including schedule adherence, cost control, and quality management 
  • Review and manage construction progress, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and claims 
  • Schedule regular management meetings and/or job walks to maintain quality control and strong relationships with owners, contractors, and project team members 
  • Monitor compliance with contracts, permits, environmental requirements, and safety standards 
  • Coordinate, monitor, and manage, project testing, commissioning, and closeout per contract requirements 
  • Facilitate the transition of the project to O&M/Asset Management per contract 

 Technical & Regulatory Coordination 

  • Coordinate, monitor, and manage permits and electric interconnection for the project  
  • Track and manage compliance with regulatory, environmental, and grid interconnection requirements 
  • Coordinate with engineering teams on design reviews, constructability, and technical issue resolution 
  • Support interconnection, permitting, inspections, testing, commissioning, and utility coordination 
  • Coordinate with local utility and RTO for timely interconnection 

Financial & Risk Management 

  • Track project budgets, cash flow, and forecasts. Support invoicing and cost reporting. Develop and publish needed reports. 
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies 
  • Support lender, investor, or client reporting as required 
  • Collaborate and support the Project Finance, Legal, and Project Development teams to complete the successful and on time financial closing process 

Client & Community Relationship Management 

  • Maintain strong, customer-focused relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers, including local governmental officials  
  • Manage project team, client representative, consultant, and trade contractor relationships. 
  • Manage local, state and federal government relationships with respect to project execution 

Team & Company Support 

  • Collaborate with the jobsite and Safety team to develop, implement, and maintain the project safety program for a safe work environment.  
  • Mentor junior project staff and contribute to the development of internal project management tools and processes 
  • Represent the company professionally with clients, partners, and external stakeholders  

 

Candidate Qualifications 

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, construction management, or other related discipline 
  • Minimum eight (8) years of project management experience in renewable energy, power generation, or large infrastructure projects 
  • Minimum four (4) years’ progressive experience in solar development and construction, including roles as Project Engineer, Senior Project Engineer, and/or Assistant Project Manager. 
  • Multi-project execution experience working on 20MW solar PV projects. 
  • Strong understanding of EPC contracts, construction sequencing, and risk management 
  • Expert competency with critical software systems, including Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills, scheduling software (Primavera (P6) or Microsoft Project), and Project Management/Project Accounting software such as Procore and Sage 
  • Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively work with all levels of the organization 
  • Possess strong safety culture, integrity, and commitment to compliance 
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving ability 
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, make decisions, prioritize, and meet assigned deadlines in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex project interfaces 
  • Strong work ethic, a high degree of detail orientation, and a sense of urgency 
  • Ability to travel as needed to project sites 
  • Eligible to work in United States 

Preferred: 

  • Direct construction and commissioning experience for utility-scale (150 MW) solar PV projects 
  • Familiarity with owner’s representative or owner’s engineer roles 
  • Experience with grid interconnection, utility coordination, and permitting processes 
  • Professional certifications (PMP, PE, or similar)

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and view and create documents. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items of light to heavy weights.   

While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in a business office setting, at project construction or operating plant sites, and occasionally out in the field. During field activities, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, or confined spaces and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office and may become loud in field situations.
