8th Grade Special Education Teacher | 6 hours weekly | Thousand Oaks

Novel Education Group is seeking a unique and exceptional part-time Special Education Teacher for in-person instruction in Thousand Oaks, California. Our student is an incredibly sweet raising 8th grader with Down Syndrome who aspires to attend college and pursue a career. This is her third year with Novel Education Group! This presents an extraordinary opportunity for a teacher to make a profound impact.

At Novel Education Group, we are in the process of crafting a fully customized homeschooling curriculum tailored specifically to our 8th grade student. We are in search of an outstanding teacher who is well-versed in various homeschooling curricula, possesses the ability to adapt and modify materials, and can adjust the curriculum as mastery is achieved. The right teacher is loving, flexible and knows how to adapt, support and maintain high standards for our student. This as an opportunity to really make a difference in her life.

While our student will be in 8th grade, her academic abilities span a range from 1st to 4th grade levels so you must be able to scaffold 7th grade material. The ideal teacher will possess the skill to adapt, provide support, and uphold high educational standards for a student who has faced challenges in engaging with learning. Responsibilities will encompass daily homeschooling lessons, meticulous record-keeping of school hours, conducting ongoing assessments and quarterly reports.

Our ideal candidate is professional and a college graduate with a worldly attitude and perspective. While Special Education experience is a must, a teaching degree is not necessarily required.

• Details: Homeschool teacher to implement Novel's customized curriculum. Overall, the family's ultimate end goal is for the student to have fun learning. They are seeking an individual who is excited to embark on a learning journey with her, is interested in building a relationship, and can provide support in her learning endeavors, whatever they may look like.

Qualifications:

• Able to readily commit to in-person learning in Thousand Oaks
• 2 year Special Education Private teaching or tutoring experience with children with down syndrome
• 3 years minimum of teaching experience
• Familiar with Common Core Standards
• Extremely detail oriented
• Experience homeschooling is a huge plus. Your duties will include logging daily hours, quarterly reports and all other standards necessary to comply with CA homeschooling standards.
