What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Technician position at NovaSource Power?
The Mechanical Technician will be expected to carry out a wide range activities in support of the operation and maintenance tasks of mechanical assets and structures within the plant, as well as keeping vegetation under control within the plant boundaries. Most of these activities will be undertaken outdoor on the field.
This position will be accountable for:
- Carry out predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance related to the mechanical systems and structures of the plant.
- Maintain, calibrate, align, troubleshoot, and repair plant mechanical systems. (Trackers structures that rotates from East to West during the day, as well as conducting mechanical checks and maintenance on equipment and machinery such as tractors, slashers, RTVs, etc.)
- Perform regular inspections and checks to monitor performance of mechanical assets.
- Preparation, tracking, closing, and recording of maintenance work orders.
- Liaise with manufacturers, contractors, and suppliers on technical aspects of the job.
- Assist site manager and electricians on regular maintenance works as required.
- Carry out vegetation control activities (ground maintenance, vegetation management, mechanical mowing and pruning, sprying, etc.), in support of the operation and maintenance tasks within the plant.
- Carry out panel cleaning activities to keep PV panels operating within expected conditions.
- Maintenance activities will involve the driving of vehicles such as tractors, RTVs, zero-turn mowers, as well as the use of other tools and accessories such as brushcutters, pressure washers, sprying equipment. These activities will be carried out within the plant boundaries (private property).
- Other adhoc duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in similar roles and trades activities (required).
- High risk work licence (required).
- Valid Driving Licence (required) – 2 to 4 tons vehicles (C class).
- Experience with mechanical systems used in solar farms (trackers, PV panels structures, module cleaning) or demonstrate a willingness to learn (desirable).
- Certificate II or III in Engineering or Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining) (desirable).
- Strong commitment towards safety and quality.
- Computer literate for reporting and/or digital input of maintenance activities (work orders, equipment checks, status checks).
