Novak Construction is a growing commercial and industrial construction firm committed to delivering high-quality projects while upholding the highest standards of safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility. We are currently seeking a Site Safety Officer to support our team for an industrial construction project in Coldwater, Michigan for approximately 1 year.
Important Note:
- This is a full-time, on-site position in Coldwater, MI.
- The assignment will last approximately 1 year.
- Candidates must reside in or relocate to the area for the duration of the project.
Job Summary
The Site Safety Officer supports the construction management team by monitoring and enforcing safety protocols on an active jobsite. Responsibilities include identifying hazards, implementing controls, conducting training, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, company policies, and project-specific safety standards. This role may also involve performing and documenting quality control inspections.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits; document hazards and ensure timely corrective actions
- Assist with subcontractor onboarding and site-specific safety orientation
- Enforce company and owner safety requirements on-site
- Maintain and update the site-specific safety plan and related documentation
- Monitor compliance with OSHA and applicable regulations
- Participate in job hazard analyses (JHAs), toolbox talks, and safety meetings
- Assist with incident and near-miss investigations; support root cause analysis
- Coordinate and provide training on PPE use, fall protection, and other key topics
- Maintain accurate safety records: inspections, training, incident reports, permits, etc.
- Support collaboration between project managers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies
- Promote a proactive safety culture through daily engagement and hazard recognition
- Conduct and document quality control inspections as needed
- Assist with site reporting and documentation (e.g., logs, photos, safety metrics)
- Support emergency response planning and drills
Qualifications
- Experience in construction safety or related field roles
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and best practices in commercial/industrial construction
- OSHA 30-Hour and First Aid/CPR certifications preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent documentation and observational abilities
- Able to walk large job sites, climb ladders, and inspect construction environments
- Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally
- Self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoDesk, or Procore is a plus
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred
