Known for strong field execution and technical capability, the organization is continuing to elevate its engineering presence in the field and is seeking a Project Field Engineer to support complex project execution across customer sites. This role is designed for an engineer who prefers the field over the desk and wants real ownership of execution.
Position Summary
The Project Field Engineer leads on-site project execution from planning through completion, serving as the primary technical authority in the field. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, and customer stakeholders, this role ensures projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. The Project Field Engineer oversees field teams, manages technical challenges in real time, and plays a key role in bridging engineering design with field execution. This position operates in a high-tempo, 24/7 environment and requires strong technical judgment, leadership presence, and adaptability in refinery settings.

Essential Responsibilities
- Field Execution & Technical Oversight
- Lead on-site execution of projects from planning through completion
- Serve as primary technical authority at refinery and industrial job sites
- Ensure work aligns with engineering specifications, safety standards, and project plans
- Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions
- Interpret and apply engineering drawings (PFDs, P&IDs, piping isometrics) in the field
- Team Leadership
- Direct and manage field technicians throughout project execution
- Provide day-to-day task direction, technical guidance, and oversight
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism
- Verify team competency and readiness prior to execution
- Planning & Engineering Coordination
- Participate in pre-execution planning, scope development, and scheduling
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to refine execution strategies
- Review and support field change requests and technical documentation
- Assist in proposal development, cost estimates, and work scope definition
- Safety & Compliance
- Lead Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and safety audits
- Enforce PPE usage, permit compliance, and site-specific safety protocols
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
- Stakeholder Management
- Serve as primary technical liaison between field teams, clients, and internal departments
- Interface with customer engineers, inspectors, and project stakeholders
- Resolve technical issues and recommend practical engineering solutions
- Reports to Regional Operations Leadership
- Direct leadership of field technicians and site execution teams
- High exposure to field operations, project execution, and customer environments
- Opportunity to grow into Project Management or broader operational leadership roles
- Continued development in technical execution, project delivery, and field leadership
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, Mechanical, Process Engineering, or related discipline
- 5 years of field engineering experience in refinery, petrochemical, or heavy industrial environments
- Demonstrated experience overseeing field execution and project coordination
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (API, ASME, OSHA PSM, etc.)
- Experience in degassing, vapor control, water treatment, natural gas compression, or turnaround work preferred
- Strong problem-solving ability in field environments
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with multiple stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with scheduling tools (MS Project or similar)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain TWIC or equivalent refinery credentials
- Ability to support a flexible schedule in a 24/7 operational environment
