Responsibilities
- Process and submit medical claims accurately and on time
- Assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Review documentation for coding accuracy and compliance
- Follow up on denied or unpaid claims and resolve issues
- Communicate with providers, payers, and patients as needed
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and data security standards
Qualifications
- Experience in medical billing, coding, or claims processing
- Familiarity with EHR and/or billing software
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
- Understanding of insurance guidelines and terminology
- Certification such as CPC, CBCS, or similar is a plus
- Prior experience billing for surgical procedures is highly desirable

Summary
The Medical Billing Specialist supports the financial operations of the practice by ensuring accurate claim submission, reimbursement follow-up, and coding compliance. This role requires discretion, professionalism, and a strong understanding of billing workflows within a surgical practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter, review, and submit insurance and patient claims
- Assign CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes based on documentation
- Verify accuracy and completeness of claim information
- Monitor claim status, investigate denials, and reprocess as needed
- Post payments and reconcile discrepancies when appropriate
- Communicate with payers, patients, and staff to resolve billing issues
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with HIPAA and practice policies
- Identify opportunities to improve billing accuracy and reimbursement timelines
Qualifications
- Experience with medical billing or coding (surgical preferred)
- Working knowledge of insurance plans, prior authorization, and reimbursement rules
- Familiarity with EHR/billing systems
- Strong problem-solving and follow-up skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
- Certification (CPC, CBCS, or equivalent) preferred but not required
