Lifeguard Job Description
At NOVA Parks, we are seeking a skilled Lifeguard to ensure the safety of our pool patrons.
Main Responsibilities:
- Monitor the swimming pool and deck area for any potential hazards
- Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies, including administering first aid as needed
- Inform swimmers and pool patrons of rules and regulations, and enforce them accordingly
- Provide assistance and information to patrons, as required
- Assist with minor housekeeping duties around the pool complex, including trash cleanup and cleaning restrooms
- Report any unsafe conditions to the Manager on Duty
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager or Water Safety Officer
Requirements:
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Successfully complete an Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) course hosted by NOVA Parks
- Demonstrate strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, and bending
- Swim 100 yards without stopping
- Retrieve a 10-pound brick from the deepest end of the pool
- Maintain ILTP certification and Community First Aid through mandatory in-service training of no less than four hours monthly
- Thorough knowledge and application of life guarding rescue techniques
- Able to communicate effectively and courteously with the public
- Able to gain a working knowledge of NOVA Parks, its history, organization, rules, and regulations
- Availability to work additional hours during peak operating season
- Ability to work a variable schedule, including early and late hours, weekends, and holidays
