About the Opportunity
Nova Lines, a fast-growing flatbed trucking company, is seeking a skilled and motivated Shop Manager to lead our high-performing maintenance team. About the Role
As the Shop Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of our maintenance facility. Your responsibilities will include leading a team of mechanics and technicians, ensuring that all repairs adhere to safety, quality, and compliance standards. You will also be in charge of the parts department, KPI reporting, employee development, and quality control, all while maintaining a safe, efficient, and driver-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of diesel mechanics, technicians, and shop support staff.
- Assign, monitor, and prioritize work orders based on urgency, skills, and fleet needs.
- Oversee repair quality and ensure jobs are completed to standard and on time.
- Conduct performance evaluations and corrective action plans as needed.
- Develop career paths and training opportunities to support employee growth and retention.
- Maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, and internal safety standards.
- Manage preventive maintenance schedules and minimize equipment downtime.
- Oversee the parts department, including procurement, inventory control, and cost management.
- Track and report on KPIs such as repair turnaround times, parts usage, labor efficiency, and fleet availability.
- Conduct quality checks on repairs to ensure driver satisfaction, safety, and road-readiness.
- Collaborate with internal departments to align repair timelines and operational needs.
- Assist with staffing, vendor management, and long-term shop planning.
- Ensure accurate documentation for payroll, billing, and compliance purposes.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on diesel mechanic experience, with 2–3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; technical certification or vocational training is preferred.
- A diesel mechanic or fleet maintenance certification is highly desirable.
- A valid driver’s license is required; CDL is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and fleet compliance standards.
- Strong leadership, team development, and organizational skills.
- Experience with maintenance software, KPI reporting tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
